What is Trees of Hope?

It's a nonprofit organization created in 1990 for the exclusive purpose of raising awareness of and producing funds for the Star of Hope, Houston's largest agency for the homeless.  There are an estimated 10000 homeless Houston men, women and children on any given night.  1500 of them are children!  Short term needs for survival, as a long term desires for advancement, are met through two emergency shelters, a Transitional Living Center and the June Waggoner House of Hope.  Offering much more than a handout, the Star of Hope provides programs for computer skills and life management.

Trees of Hope has contributed over 3 million dollars since 1990, with last year's donation at $550,000.  This year's gala, set for November 17th at the Westin Galleria, is honoring the long time service of Lynn Wyatt and features a performance by Liza Minnelli.  Along with the entertainment, the live and silent auctions will showcase the wonderful wares of many of Houston's renowned retailers and, of course, the trees and wreaths.
