AFH member Alex Torres TMF competed with 25 designers from across the country in the Sylvia Cup Design Competition sponsored by the Society of American Florists. Based on the theme "Getting Married Vegas Style", each designer presented a bouquet, corsage and a buffet composition. Other AFH members who have won this prestigious award are Patricia Gomez AIFD 1996 & Ken Senter AIFD 1986.

Alex is currently a freelance designer working in the Houston area.
He won the Houston Cup in 2001 and the Texas Cup in 2005.

Also competing this year was AFH member Benoit Ballon of King Florist in Austin. Benoit was the People's Choice winner at the 2005 Houston Cup and was First Runner-Up in this year's Texas Cup.
